Meet the black woman who sold over 1 million records at a time when it was almost unheard of. She was also the first black woman to have a number one record in the UK.

Winifred Atwell came to Britain in 1945. Within a few months of arriving she met the man of her dreams and married him. During her most prosperous period she had many hits including 2 number one records.

She was a woman of many firsts including being the first black woman to open a hairdressers for black women; she was also a landlady, owing many properties, and she was also a classical pianist of the highest quality. Yet somehow hardly anyone has ever heard of her.

This presentation puts her life into perspective and you will hear all about this amazing woman.
