The Afro Comb: Demonised throughout history
African people have been wearing combs in their hair for thousands of years. For some it is a convenient place to store their comb, for others it represents a sense of cultural pride. In the 1970s Black people all over the UK were arrested for carrying their combs in their hair.
From the earliest examples found in ancient Egypt and the Sudan to our modern times, what can Afro combs tell us about Black history and culture?
Come and hear author and historian Kandace Chimbiri talk about the fascinating history of these combs.
